Plummer Lake is a small, beautiful lake located high up in the mountains. It is found in Elmore County, Idaho, in the United States. This special lake is part of the Sawtooth Mountains, which are inside the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.

About Plummer Lake

Plummer Lake is known as an "alpine lake." This means it is located at a very high elevation, often above the tree line. It was formed by glaciers, which are like huge, slow-moving rivers of ice. The lake sits at an elevation of about 8,590 feet (2,618 meters) above sea level.

The lake is not very big. It is about 0.19 miles (0.31 kilometers) long and 0.12 miles (0.19 kilometers) wide. Water flows into Plummer Lake from small streams. The water then flows out into the Queens River, which eventually joins the Middle Fork Boise River.

Visiting the Lake

Plummer Lake is in a protected area called the Sawtooth Wilderness. This is a wild place where nature is kept as untouched as possible. To visit the Sawtooth Wilderness, you usually need a special permit. You can get these permits at registration boxes found at the start of hiking trails.

You can reach Plummer Lake by hiking. Visitors use Sawtooth National Forest trail 007. From there, they take trail 458, which follows Benedict Creek. It's a great spot for adventurers who love the outdoors.

Nearby Lakes

Another lake, called Everly Lake, is not far from Plummer Lake. It is about 0.15 miles (0.24 kilometers) to the north. However, Everly Lake is part of a different water system, the Payette River drainage.
