Pocasset is a small village located in the town of Bourne. It is part of Barnstable County in the state of Massachusetts, United States. This village sits right on the edge of Buzzards Bay.
In 2010, about 2,851 people lived in Pocasset. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people.

Where is Pocasset Located?
Pocasset is in the southwest part of the town of Bourne. It has several neighbors. To the north, you'll find the villages of Bourne and Monument Beach.
To the east, it's near Route 28. South of Pocasset is the village of Cataumet. It also borders Red Brook Pond and Red Brook Harbor. To the west, it meets the northern part of Buzzards Bay.
The United States Census Bureau says Pocasset covers about 25.3 square kilometers (9.8 square miles). A large part of this area, about 15.8 square kilometers (6.1 square miles), is water. The rest, about 9.5 square kilometers (3.7 square miles), is land.
What's in a Name?
The name "Pocasset" comes from the Pocasset Wampanoag people. They were Native Americans who lived in this area long ago.
Over time, the name changed. It was once called "Pouglikeeste," then "Pokesit," and finally "Pocasset." This shows how names can evolve through history.

Back in 2000, there were 2,671 people living here. About 16.1% of the people were under 18 years old. The median age was 50 years old. This means half the people were younger than 50 and half were older.
Clean Water in Pocasset
In 2016, some homes in Pocasset received bottled water. This happened because certain chemicals were found in the drinking water. These chemicals were linked to firefighting foam. This foam was used after fuel truck accidents near the Otis Air National Guard Base.
Officials worked to make sure the water was safe for everyone.
Cool Landmarks in Pocasset
One important landmark in Pocasset is the Wing's Neck Light. This is a special lighthouse built in 1849. It has a white, wooden tower with a light on top. The lighthouse keeper used to live in the stone house below the light. It's a great example of old Cape Cod style.
