The Movie's Story
Arceus and the Jewel of Life
Thousands of years ago, Arceus saved the world from a meteor shower. Arceus is a Pokémon believed to have created entire worlds. It almost died after losing its sixteen Life Plates. A man named Damos, from the town of Michina, saved Arceus. He gave the plates back to Arceus.
Arceus felt bad for the town. So, it put five of its plates into a special item called the Jewel of Life. This jewel made the land rich and green. Arceus asked Damos to return the jewel later. But Damos, controlled by a Bronzong owned by Marcus, betrayed Arceus. Marcus was Damos's helper.
Marcus thought the town would become a wasteland again without the jewel. So, he attacked Arceus. Arceus got angry and destroyed the temple built for it. Arceus then went into a long sleep. It planned to judge humanity when it woke up.
Pokémon Collide
When Arceus started to wake up, huge energy swirls appeared around it. These swirls pulled together the dimensions of two Pokémon that should never meet. These were Dialga, who rules time, and Palkia, who rules space. Dialga and Palkia then fought in Alamos Town. Each thought the other was trying to take over their territory.
Their battle also affected the Reverse World. This is the dimension ruled by the Pokémon Giratina. This brought Giratina into the big fight too.
Ash's Journey to the Past
In the present time, Pokémon trainers Ash Ketchum, Dawn, and Brock arrive at a lake. It is near the ruined temple. A big whirlpool appears and threatens Ash's Pikachu and Dawn's Piplup. Sheena, who is related to Damos, shows up. She studies problems in time and space.
Sheena calls Dialga, who saves Pikachu and Piplup. Giratina also arrives, but Ash calms it down. Giratina remembers Ash from a past meeting. Sheena thinks Ash and Pikachu are the "thunder creature and its master" from an old story. This story says they changed the town's fate long ago. Palkia then arrives to save Dialga from another whirlpool. After that, Dialga and Palkia go back to their own dimensions.
Stopping Arceus's Anger
Arceus finally arrives. Sheena tries to give it the Jewel of Life to calm its anger. But she finds out the jewel is a fake! Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina arrive to stop Arceus from destroying humanity. Dialga sends Ash, Dawn, Brock, and Sheena back in time. They go to the day Damos was tricked into betraying Arceus.
In that past, Damos and Marcus fall to their deaths as the temple collapses. Sheena asks Dialga to send them even further back in time.
Changing History
Sheena doesn't know Marcus is the bad guy. She tells him everything about the future. Arceus arrives to get the Jewel of Life from Marcus's staff. But Sheena is tricked into betraying Arceus because the staff is empty. Arceus falls into a pit. It gets hurt by silver water and electric attacks. Arceus became weak to these attacks after giving Damos the jewel.
Marcus wants to kill Arceus himself to "save" the future. Sheena and Damos use their special powers to talk to other Pokémon. They stop the Pokémon Marcus controls from hurting Arceus with electricity.
Ash gets the real Jewel of Life. Damos's power calms Arceus. Arceus takes back the jewel, which makes it strong again. This also fixes the time problem that almost killed Ash, Dawn, Brock, Sheena, and their Pokémon. Arceus saves everyone from the collapsing temple.
Ash and his friends are sent back to the present. They find Arceus is still very angry. It has already beaten Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. Arceus sees Ash and recognizes him because history changed. It undoes all the damage it caused and heals the other Pokémon. Ash and the others see that Damos put them in a painting. He thanked them for saving the world. They also see that Michina is still green and fertile, even without the Jewel of Life. This is because the people and Pokémon worked together. Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Arceus go back to their own dimensions. Arceus finally understands that it truly belongs to this world.
