Pokémon Colosseum first came out in Japan on November 21, 2003. Players in North America got to play it starting March 22, 2004. Finally, it was released in Europe on May 14, 2004.

About Pokémon Colosseum

Pokémon Colosseum is a special kind of Pokémon game. Unlike other games where you catch Pokémon in the wild, in this game you rescue "Shadow Pokémon." These Pokémon have had their hearts closed off and are used for bad things. Your goal is to snag them from evil trainers and bring them back to normal.

How the Game Works

In Pokémon Colosseum, you play as a hero named Wes. He is a former member of a bad group called Team Snagem. Wes teams up with a girl named Rui, who can see the dark aura of Shadow Pokémon. Together, they travel through the Orre region to save these Pokémon.

The game focuses on double battles, where you use two Pokémon at a time against two of your opponent's Pokémon. This makes battles more strategic and exciting. You can also trade Pokémon with other Game Boy Advance Pokémon games.

Making the Game

The idea for Pokémon Colosseum was inspired by other popular role-playing games. These included games like Final Fantasy VII and Persona 2: Innocent Sin. The creators wanted to make a Pokémon game that felt a bit different.

Junichi Masuda, a director for the Pokémon games, explained why Pokémon Colosseum was made for a home console like the GameCube instead of a handheld system. He said that how players connect with each other is very important for Pokémon games. He felt that handheld systems were usually better for this. However, they found a way to make a fun Pokémon game for a home console too.

The game was first shown to the public at E3 in 2003. E3 is a big event where new video games are revealed.
