List of generation III Pokémon facts for kids
The third group of Pokémon (called Generation III) brought 135 new kinds of creatures to the Pokémon world. These Pokémon first appeared in the 2002 Game Boy Advance games, Ruby and Sapphire. Along with the games, a TV show called Pokémon Advanced also started. It aired in Japan from late 2002 to mid-2003.
This list shows all 135 Pokémon from Generation III. They are ordered by their National Pokédex number. The first Pokémon is Treecko, number 252, and the last is Deoxys, number 386. Sometimes, a Pokémon can have different forms that change its type; these are included here. However, special forms like Mega Evolutions or regional forms are usually found on the pages for the generation where they were first introduced.
How Generation III Pokémon Were Designed
Nintendo Life looked back at the third generation of Pokémon and noticed something special. Almost all of the 135 new Pokémon, except for Azurill and Wynaut, were completely new. They weren't related to any Pokémon from the first two generations. The games Ruby and Sapphire also introduced two special "Mythical Pokémon": Jirachi and Deoxys. These Pokémon became available around the same time as their own anime movies.
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire added many more "Dark" and "Steel"-type Pokémon. Before these games, there were only a few Pokémon with these types. Hardcore Gamer also pointed out that many new Pokémon in this generation had "dual typing." This means they had two different types at once, which was not as common in earlier games like Red and Blue or Gold and Silver.
