The story happens during the seventh season of the Pokémon: Advanced Challenge TV show.

The film was first shown in Japan on July 17, 2004. Later, it was released in English on January 22, 2005. The English version was made by 4Kids Entertainment. The movie's director, Kunihiko Yuyama, even visited Vancouver, Canada, to get ideas for the city setting! The Japanese ending song is "Lovely" by Tommy February6. The English ending song is "This Side of Paradise" by Bree Sharp.

Story of Destiny Deoxys

The movie begins with a mysterious space rock heading towards Earth. This rock almost hits Rayquaza, a powerful Pokémon that lives high in the sky. The space rock crashes in a cold, icy area. Two strange, egg-shaped objects appear from it. One purple egg quickly turns into a Deoxys, a Pokémon from space. It then picks up a green egg.

Rayquaza sees Deoxys as an enemy and flies down to fight it. Their battle destroys a nearby research station. A young boy named Tory gets very scared by a stampede of Pokémon like Spheal, Sealeo, and Walrein. Deoxys and Rayquaza fight fiercely. Rayquaza eventually hits Deoxys with a powerful attack, destroying its body. Only a purple crystal is left, which falls into the sea. Researchers take the green crystal that Deoxys had found. Deep under the sea, the injured Deoxys slowly heals and waits.

Four Years Later

Four years pass, and Ash, May, Brock, and Max arrive in LaRousse City. This city is very modern, with robots patrolling everywhere. Here, they meet Tory, the boy from before. He is now afraid of Pokémon and spends most of his time alone. The purple Deoxys has fully healed. It leaves the sea to find the green crystal, which Tory's parents are studying in a lab.

At the Battle Tower, Ash thinks Tory is a Pokémon Trainer. They have a battle against two other trainers, Rafe and Sid. Tory uses Ash's Torkoal, but he doesn't know how to battle, so they lose. Tory runs off but stops to save a Minun trapped in a trash can. Later, Ash meets Tory's parents. Everyone is having fun until a strange purple light appears in the sky. This means Deoxys has returned!

The City Under Siege

Deoxys starts removing people from the city using copies of itself. It is searching for the green crystal. Things get complicated when Rayquaza returns, ready to fight Deoxys again. Also, the city's security robots start to malfunction. Deoxys creates a strong force field that turns off all power in the city. Rayquaza manages to break through the force field, and the battle between Deoxys and Rayquaza continues, causing a lot of damage.

Meanwhile, Pikachu, Minun, and Plusle help to power up the generator in the lab. This makes the green crystal regenerate! As the fight goes on, the purple Deoxys tackles Rayquaza. Just as it's about to finish the fight, the green Deoxys arrives, fully healed. It quickly changes into its Defense Forme, saving Rayquaza.

Working Together

The city is now filled with thousands of malfunctioning robots. The main robot becomes hostile and attacks Rayquaza. The two Deoxys work together, forming shields to protect Rayquaza. Seeing this, Rayquaza realizes the Deoxys are not enemies. It starts firing powerful attacks at the thousands of robots.

Ash and Tory work together to stop the robots. They manage to turn off the main robot, which frees the two Deoxys and Rayquaza. Tory almost falls from the robot towers while trying to save Plusle and Minun, but the green Deoxys saves him. Rayquaza, understanding that Deoxys is not a threat, flies away peacefully. The Deoxys create beautiful green and purple lights in the sky as a goodbye to their new friends. They then leave for an unknown place.

Ash says that wherever they go, they will always have each other. Tory, who is no longer afraid of Pokémon, agrees. He later says goodbye to Ash and his friends at the train station, with his new friends, Plusle and Minun, on his shoulders. Ash and his friends continue their journey through the Hoenn region.
