Nana Kondō (born January 21, 1980), known as Nana Mizuki, is a famous Japanese voice actress, singer, and narrator. She works with the agency StarCrew. Mizuki first trained as an enka singer. She released a single under her birth name in 1993. She started her career as a voice actress in 1996.

Mizuki has voiced many popular characters. These include Hinata Hyuga in the Naruto series, Tamao Tamamura in Shaman King, Colette Brunel in Tales of Symphonia, Fate Testarossa in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Ann Takamaki in Persona 5. She has also dubbed roles for live-action films. For example, she was the voice of Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) in Hunger Games movies.

Mizuki released her first single, "Omoi", in 2000. Her first album, Supersonic Girl, came out in 2001. Her song "Innocent Starter" reached the top 10 on the Oricon singles chart. Her music became very popular in Japan. In 2009, her album Ultimate Diamond reached number one. Her single "Phantom Minds" also hit number one in 2010. Mizuki was the first voice actress to top both the weekly Oricon albums and singles charts. These charts started in 1968.

Early Life

Nana Mizuki was born in Niihama, Ehime, Japan. She started training to sing enka music when she was five years old. In 1993, she released a cassette single called "Tsugazakura". She used her birth name, Nana Kondō, for this release. Later, she passed an audition for the game Noël: La Neige. This is how she became a voice actress.

Career Highlights

Mizuki released a song called "Girl's Age" in 1997. She used the name Chisato Kadokura for this. When she was 20, she performed her first concert. There, she was discovered by King Records. Her first single as Nana Mizuki, "Omoi", was released on December 6, 2000. Her 2004 song "Innocent Starter" was her first song to reach the Top 10. Her 2005 single "Eternal Blaze" reached the No. 2 spot on the Japanese Oricon weekly charts.

In 2007, Mizuki won an award for "Best Musical Performance". This was for her song "Justice to Believe" at the first Seiyu Awards. Her seventh album, Ultimate Diamond, became No. 1 on the Oricon weekly album charts in June 2009. This made her the first voice actress to reach No. 1 on these charts. The album sold over 74,000 copies in its first week. Her 21st single, "Phantom Minds", also became No. 1 in January 2010. This was the first time a voice actress's single topped the charts.

In November 2009, NHK announced that Mizuki would perform on the 60th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen. This is a famous New Year's Eve TV show. It was her first time on the show. She sang her song "Shin'ai".

Mizuki is known for voicing shy but kind female characters. Many of her characters start quiet but become more open. Examples include Fate Testarossa from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and Hinata Hyūga from Naruto. She often voices characters who have romantic feelings for the main heroes. She also voiced Nanami Madobe, the unofficial mascot for Microsoft's Japanese Windows 7.

In February 2010, Mizuki became the First Tourism Ambassador for her hometown, Niihama, Ehime. She won the Tomiyama Kei Award at the 4th Seiyu Awards in 2010. She also performed "Phantom Minds" at the 61st NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen in 2010.

On January 21, 2011, she released her first autobiography, Shin Ai. This book celebrated her 10th year as a singer. Mizuki won the Top Pop Artists award at the Billboard Japan Music Awards 2010.

Mizuki has appeared on the Kōhaku Uta Gassen show several times. She performed from 2009 to 2014. On December 3–4, 2011, she held a two-day concert at Tokyo Dome. She was the first voice actress and only the eighth Japanese female solo artist to perform there. In March 2012, Mizuki won the Animation Artist of the Year 2011 award.

In November 2013, Mizuki performed in Singapore at Anime Festival Asia. This was her first overseas performance. Later that month, she held her first solo concerts outside Japan, in Taiwan. In March 2014, she received the Rookie of the Year award in Popular Entertainment. This was from the MEXT Art Encouragement Prizes.

She held her second overseas solo concerts in Singapore and Taiwan in 2014. On September 22, 2016, she performed at Koshien Stadium. This is Japan's oldest stadium. She was the first voice actress and solo artist to hold a concert there.

In July 2017, Mizuki started acting on stage. She played the main role of Carole King in the Japanese musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. On September 30, 2017, she performed at the opening ceremony of the 72nd National Sports Festival of Japan. This event was held in Ehime. She performed in front of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko. In January 2018, she held a 7-day concert series at the Nippon Budokan.

Personal Life

Nana Mizuki shared happy news on her blog on July 7, 2020. She announced that she had married someone who works in the music industry. On November 6, 2020, she announced she was expecting her first child. On March 16, 2021, Mizuki shared that she had successfully given birth. In April 2022, she tested positive for COVID-19. She later recovered and returned to her work.
