Pop-Up Pirate is a super fun game of chance that kids love! It's made by a company called Tomy. This exciting game first came out in Japan in 1975. Back then, it was known as "Blackbeard in Danger." Over the years, many different versions of the game have been created.

How to Play Pop-Up Pirate

Playing Pop-Up Pirate is easy and exciting! First, you place the pirate toy into a special barrel. You then spin the pirate to make sure the "unlucky" slot is in a random spot.

Next, players take turns. Each player picks a plastic sword and carefully pushes it into one of the slots on the side of the barrel. The trick is, one of these slots will make the pirate jump out! This "unlucky" slot changes every time you play.

If you pick the wrong slot, the pirate will pop out of the barrel. When this happens, that player is out of the game. The goal is to be the last player left after everyone else has been eliminated. The last one standing wins!

Why Pop-Up Pirate is Good for You

Games like Pop-Up Pirate are not just fun; they can also help you learn! A professor named Dominic Wyse from University College London says that this game helps kids with their motor skills. Motor skills are about how well you use your hands and fingers.

Like many other games, Pop-Up Pirate also teaches you important social skills. You learn about turn-taking, which means waiting for your turn and letting others play. Most importantly, it's a great way to have fun and laugh together with your friends and family!

Different Versions of Pop-Up Pirate

Over the years, Pop-Up Pirate has come out in many cool variations. Sometimes, the pirate character is replaced with other famous characters!

Themed Versions

One of the earliest themed versions was based on Mario. This special game was released only in Japan to help advertise the video game Super Mario World. After that, many more themed versions came out in Japan. These included characters like Hard Gay, Monkey D. Luffy, and characters from movies like The Good Dinosaur and Toy Story 4 (with Buzz Lightyear).

One of the first themed versions to come to America was a Darth Vader-themed game called Pop Up Darth Vader. You can also find versions based on popular movies like Frozen and Despicable Me. There's even a version with characters from Tigson & Squidgy!

Pop-up Pirate Treasure Island

There's a special version called Pop-up Pirate Treasure Island. This game adds new elements, making it a bit like a board game. In this version, players race to be the first to collect 6 gold coins. These coins are hidden in a treasure chest guarded by Blackbeard. But be careful, only one key will open the treasure chest!
