The Porsche 928 is a special kind of luxury car called a grand tourer. It was made by the German company Porsche AG from 1978 to 1995. Porsche first designed the 928 to take the place of their famous 911 model. They wanted a car that had the power and handling of a sports car but also offered a lot of comfort and fancy features, like a luxury sedan.
Porsche leaders thought the 928 would be more popular than the smaller 911. The 928 was also the very first Porsche production car to have a V8 engine. It's also the only coupé (a two-door car) from Porsche with its V8 engine placed in the front.
This car became famous in movies like Scarface, Risky Business, and Leonard.

What is a Grand Tourer?
A grand tourer, often called a GT, is a car designed for both high speed and long-distance driving. These cars combine the exciting performance of a sports car with the comfort and features of a luxury vehicle. They are perfect for long trips across countries or continents.
Why the 928 was Special
The Porsche 928 was unique for several reasons. It was the first Porsche production car to use a V8 engine. A V8 engine has eight cylinders arranged in a "V" shape, which gives it a lot of power. It was also the only coupé (a two-door car) from Porsche that had its powerful V8 engine placed in the front of the car. Most sports cars, especially Porsche's own 911, have their engines in the back.
Porsche originally planned for the 928 to replace the iconic 911. They believed a car with a front engine and a V8 would appeal to more people. It offered a smoother, more comfortable ride compared to the sometimes challenging 911.
Engines and Performance
Over its production run from 1978 to 1995, the Porsche 928 used several different V8 engines. These engines varied in size, starting from 4.5 liters and growing to 5.4 liters. Each engine was designed to give the car plenty of power and a smooth driving experience.
The 928 was available with different types of transmissions. Drivers could choose between a 5-speed manual transmission, which lets you shift gears yourself, or automatic transmissions, which shift gears for you. Early models had a 3-speed automatic, and later ones had a 4-speed automatic.
