The Pourangaki River is a cool river found in the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. This area is located on the North Island. The river starts high up in the Ruahine Range mountains. It then flows towards the northwest.

Journey of the Pourangaki River

The Pourangaki River is about 19 kilometers (12 miles) long. It begins its journey in the Ruahine Range. These mountains are known for their beautiful nature. As the river flows, it passes through the Rangitikei District.

Where the River Ends

The Pourangaki River doesn't flow all the way to the ocean. Instead, it joins another river. It meets the Kawhatau River about 13 kilometers (8 miles) east of a town called Mangaweka. The Kawhatau River is part of a bigger river system. This system eventually flows into the Rangitīkei River.

Part of a Bigger System

The Pourangaki River is like a smaller stream feeding into a larger network. It helps to carry water from the mountains. This water then joins the Kawhatau River. From there, it flows into the mighty Rangitīkei River. The Rangitīkei River is one of the longest rivers in New Zealand.
