Powderly is a small city located in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, in the United States. It's a place where about 788 people lived as of the 2020 census.

A Look Back in Time
Powderly started as a town because of a coal mine that opened in 1887. The company that owned the mine was called Cooperative Coal Company.
The community got its name from Terence Powderly. He was an important leader who worked to improve conditions for workers. The town's post office was set up the year after the mine opened.
Where is Powderly?
Powderly is located in the middle part of Muhlenberg County. You can find it along U.S. Route 62. This road connects Powderly to Central City to the northeast and Greenville to the southwest.
There's also Kentucky Route 189, which helps traffic go around Powderly. The city covers about 1.60 square miles (4.15 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. The water in the city flows into Caney Creek and Little Cypress Creek, which are both part of the larger Green River.
