History of Pozas and Puerto Rico
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a special area of the U.S. called an unincorporated territory.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that 2,796 people lived in the Pozas barrio at that time.
The population of Pozas has changed over the years, as shown in the table below:

Understanding Barrios and Sectors
In Puerto Rico, a barrio is like a large neighborhood or a small district. It's a way to divide up a municipality (which is like a county or a town).
These barrios are then divided even further into smaller areas called sectores (which means sectors in English). The names for these smaller areas can be different. Some are simply called sector, while others might be called urbanización, reparto, barriada, or residencial.
Here are the different sectors you can find within the Pozas barrio:
- Sector Blacho
- Sector Cascana
- Sector Capilla
- Sector Cuesta Mata
- Sector El Cedro
- Sector El Gundo
- Sector El Hoyo
- Sector Frontera
- Sector Las Lomas
- Sector Llanadas
- Sector Manicaboa
- Sector Villanueva
