Preeti Desai (born on September 29, 1981) is a British actress. She has starred in movies and TV shows. Before acting, she was a fashion model. In 2011, she was named one of the 50 most popular and beautiful people by Times of India and People Magazine.

Growing Up

Preeti Desai was born in Middlesbrough, England. Her parents, Hemlata and Jitendra, owned a company that made fireworks. Her family comes from Gujarat, India. Her father grew up in Kenya, and her mother grew up in Uganda. Preeti also has a younger sister, Anjlee Desai, who is a singer.

Preeti went to school in Coulby Newham and Nunthorpe. She also attended Middlesbrough College.

In 2008, Preeti started studying acting. She got advice from famous actor Shah Rukh Khan. Her first movie was Shor in the City in 2011. This movie was a thriller set in Mumbai, India. Preeti played the main female character, Sharmili. Critics and audiences really liked her performance.

For her role in Shor in the City, Preeti was nominated for Best Lead Actress. This nomination was at the South Asian Rising Star Film Awards in New York in 2012. The movie was also shown at big film festivals around the world.

Preeti Desai first won the title of Miss Cleveland. Then, in 2006, she won Miss Great Britain. She was the first woman of Indian heritage to win this title. She took over the title after the previous winner was disqualified. The public voted for Preeti to become the new winner.

After winning, Preeti moved to London. She worked as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain. She supported charities like Mind and Carers Week. She even visited 10 Downing Street to meet with Prime Minister Gordon Brown. This was to help bring attention to the important work of these charities.
