Playing Career
Playing for the New York Mets
Prentice Redman began his professional baseball journey when the New York Mets picked him in the 10th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball draft. Before joining the pros, he played baseball at Tuscaloosa Academy in high school. He also attended Bevill State Community College. In 2001, while playing for the St. Lucie Mets, Prentice was chosen for the Florida State League All-Star team. This showed he was a talented player.
Redman made his first appearance in Major League Baseball on August 24, 2003. He played for the Mets against the Los Angeles Dodgers. His first official hit in the big leagues was a double. This exciting moment happened on September 2 against the Atlanta Braves. During that season, Redman had a batting average of .125 over 24 times at bat for the Mets.
Time in the Minor Leagues
After the 2005 season, Prentice Redman left the Mets organization. He then played for other teams' farm systems, which are like training grounds for young players. He played for teams connected to the Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Seattle Mariners. From 2007 to 2009, he was with the Mariners' system. In 2009, he played 108 games for the AAA Tacoma Rainiers and had a good batting average of .297.
In 2010, Redman signed a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He started the season playing for their Triple-A team, the Albuquerque Isotopes. His time with the team ended early that season. Before this, he had played in 61 games, hitting .332 with 10 home runs and 41 runs batted in (RBI).
Playing in Independent Leagues
In 2011, Redman moved on to play independent baseball. These leagues are not directly connected to Major League Baseball teams. He played for several teams, including the Bridgeport Bluefish in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (APBL). He also played for the Kansas City T-Bones in the American Association and the Olmecas de Tabasco in the Mexican League.
Redman continued playing for the Bridgeport Bluefish after the 2011 season. He stayed with them until the beginning of the 2015 season.
Joining the Long Island Ducks
On May 1, 2015, the Bridgeport Bluefish traded Prentice Redman to the Long Island Ducks. This was a trade for another player who would be named later. Redman returned to Bridgeport on May 5, 2015, but this time as a visitor playing against his old team. In his very first time at bat, he hit a single against his former teammate, D. J. Mitchell. Redman was released by the Ducks on July 28, 2015. This happened because the Ducks brought in a new player, former MLB pitcher Rich Hill.
