Growing Up and Playing Sports
Tike Redman loved baseball from a young age. Before high school, he played little league baseball in Duncanville, Alabama. He competed against teams from nearby towns like Taylorville and Moundville.
He went to Tuscaloosa Academy in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There, he was a talented athlete in many sports. Tike earned special recognition for playing football, baseball, and running track. He finished high school and graduated in 1996.
Tike Redman's Baseball Journey
Tike Redman started his professional baseball career in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2000 to 2001, and again from 2003 to 2005. Later, he joined the Baltimore Orioles in 2007.
Playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates
By the end of the 2005 season, Tike had played in 392 MLB games. He had a career batting average of .277, meaning he got a hit almost 28% of the time he tried. He also had 144 hits and 15 home runs.
His best year in MLB was 2004. That season, he played the most games in his big league career. Tike batted .280 and hit 8 home runs. He also brought in 51 runs batted in (RBI) for his team. Plus, he was fast, stealing 18 bases.
After the 2005 season, the Pirates made some changes. They brought up two new players, Nate McLouth and Chris Duffy. This meant Tike was no longer needed by the team.
Moving to Other Teams
After leaving the Pirates, Tike Redman was traded to the New York Mets in November 2005. He spent all of 2006 playing in the minor leagues. He played for teams connected to the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros. During that year, he had a batting average of .268 over 106 games. He hit 2 home runs, had 19 RBI, and stole 16 bases.
In 2007, Tike played for the York Revolution in the Atlantic League. This is an independent league, meaning teams are not connected to MLB clubs.
Joining the Baltimore Orioles
On May 15, 2007, Tike signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles. He played for their Triple-A team, the Norfolk Tides. Triple-A is just one step below the major leagues. He played very well for the Tides, batting .300 and stealing 25 bases in 79 games.
Because he played so well, the Orioles called him up to the major leagues on August 9, 2007. Tike became the Orioles' main center fielder for the rest of the 2007 season. He played in 40 games and continued to hit well, with a batting average of .318.
Later Career Years
After his time with the Orioles, Tike Redman spent all of 2008 back with the Norfolk Tides. He continued to play well, batting .292. After that season, he became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.
In 2009, Tike joined the Newark Bears in the Atlantic League. He was their starting center fielder and usually batted first in the lineup. Later that year, the Milwaukee Brewers bought his contract. He was sent to their Triple-A team, the Nashville Sounds. Tike had played for the Sounds before, from 2000 to 2003, when they were connected to the Pirates. He still holds the Sounds' team record for the most triples, with 32.
On April 1, 2010, the Brewers released Tike. He then signed with the Olmecas de Tabasco in the Mexican League. He played there through the 2011 season. Interestingly, his brother Prentice Redman also played briefly for the same team in 2011.
