The President of Timor-Leste is the leader of the country. Their official title is the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. In Portuguese, this is Presidente da República Democrática de Timor-Leste, and in Tetum, it's Prezidente Republika Demokratika Timor-Leste.
The president is the head of state, which means they are the symbolic leader of the nation. While they have some important duties, their power to make daily government decisions is limited. The president also leads the Council of State. They can stop new laws from being passed (this is called a veto). The president is also the top commander of the Timor-Leste Defence Force, which is the country's military.
