The Head of the Chechen Republic is the top leader in Chechnya. This person acts as both the head of the region and the head of its government. The official name in Chechen is Mehkada Nohçiyn Respublika. In Russian, it is Glava Chechenskoy Respubliki.
Before March 5, 2011, this position was called the President of the Chechen Republic. The office was created in 2003. This happened after the Russian federal government took control of the region. People in Chechnya voted to approve their current Constitution.
Becoming the Head of Chechnya
To become the Head of the Chechen Republic, a person must be a citizen of Russia. They also need to be at least 30 years old.
The Head serves for a term of five years. There is no limit to how many terms a person can serve. This means they can be re-elected many times.
The Head cannot also be a member of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic. They also cannot be a member of any local government body at the same time.
