Prestonfield is a neighborhood in the southern part of Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. It's mostly a place where people live. You can find it about 3 miles south of the city center, just east of the main A7 road. Prestonfield is well-known for its beautiful Prestonfield House, which is now a famous hotel. It also has the Prestonfield Golf Club, which is the closest golf course to Edinburgh's city center.

Homes were built here between World War I and World War II. This included private bungalows and a council estate, which are homes built by the local government.

Exploring Prestonfield

Prestonfield is located west of Duddingston. On its western side, you'll find Newington Cemetery. To the south is an area called Cameron Toll. North of Prestonfield are the Pollock Halls of Residence and the Commonwealth Pool.

The area is also very close to two famous natural landmarks. These are Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags to the east. They are tall hills that stand high above Prestonfield.

A Bit of History

Long ago, this area was known as Priestfield. Some places and street names still use this older name today. For example, the local church, which was built in 1880, is called Priestfield Parish Church. The church decided to use the old name again in 1975.
