Prewitt Reservoir is a large body of water located in northeastern Colorado. It stretches across parts of Washington and Logan counties. This reservoir is important for two main reasons: it helps farmers water their crops and it's a popular spot for outdoor fun. When the reservoir is completely full, its surface covers about 2,340 acres. You can find Prewitt Reservoir about 18 miles northeast of Fort Morgan, Colorado, close to the South Platte River.
Building the Reservoir
The Prewitt Reservoir was built a long time ago, with construction starting in 1910. A company called the Great Western Sugar Company paid for and constructed it. The main reason for building the reservoir was to make sure there was enough water for irrigating, or watering, sugar beet crops. These crops need a lot of water to grow well. The construction of the reservoir was finished in 1912.
Fishing Fun
Prewitt Reservoir is a very popular place for people who love to fish. The reservoir is regularly stocked with different kinds of fish. This means that fish are added to the water so there are always plenty for anglers to catch. Some of the fish you might find here include walleye, saugeye, channel catfish, wipers, and black crappie.
