Prince Charles of Luxembourg was born on May 10, 2020. His full name is Charles Jean Philippe Joseph Marie Guillaume. He is the first child of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie. Prince Charles was born in Luxembourg City at the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital.

He is currently second in line to become the Grand Duke of Luxembourg. This means he is expected to become the Grand Duke after his father. When he was born, a special 21-gun salute was fired at Fort Thungen to celebrate.

On September 19, 2020, Prince Charles was baptized. The ceremony took place at the Abbey of St. Maurice and St. Maurus of Clervaux. His godparents are his aunt, Countess Gaëlle de Lannoy, and his uncle, Prince Louis of Luxembourg.

Prince Charles is set to become the Heir Apparent to the Grand Duke of Luxembourg on October 3, 2025. This will happen when his grandfather, Grand Duke Henri, steps down. His father will then become the new Grand Duke.

Prince Charles's Early Life

Princess Stéphanie announced she was expecting Prince Charles on December 6, 2019. He was born on May 10, 2020, at 5:13 AM local time. At the time, his grandfather, Grand Duke Henri, was the ruler.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa first met Charles by video call. This was a new way for the family to connect.

His baptism took place at the Abbey of St. Maurice and St. Maurus of Clervaux. This was on September 19, 2020. For his first birthday on May 10, 2021, the Luxembourg Post created special postage stamps. These stamps celebrated his first year of life. On March 27, 2023, Prince Charles welcomed his younger brother, Prince François.
