Prince Takechi (高市皇子, Takechi no miko, Takechi no ōji, c. 654 – 13 August 696) was an important member of the royal family in Japan during the Asuka period. He was the oldest son of Emperor Tenmu.

Prince Takechi played a big part in the Jinshin War in 672. This was a battle over who would become the next emperor. He fought alongside his father, Emperor Tenmu. His father won the war and became the Emperor.

When he was about 19 years old, his father sent him to lead the army. He was a general commander in the area that is now Fuwa District, Mino Province (which is in the southern part of Gifu Prefecture today).

In 679, Prince Takechi was in Yoshino with his father and siblings. There, they all promised to work together. When Empress Jitō became empress in 686, Prince Takechi was given a very important job. He became the Daijō-daijin, which was like a chief minister. In this role, he helped manage all the government affairs. He died suddenly in 696.

Prince Takechi wrote only three waka poems in his life. These poems were all written for Princess Tōchi, who was his elder half-sister.
