The title Principia Mathematica (pronounced prin-SIP-ee-uh math-uh-MAT-ih-kuh) is Latin for "Mathematical Principles." It's a famous name because two very important books in history share this title. What is Principia Mathematica?
The name "Principia Mathematica" refers to two separate books that changed how we understand science and mathematics. One was written by a famous scientist named Isaac Newton, and the other by two mathematicians, Alfred North Whitehead and Bertrand Russell. Both books are considered masterpieces in their fields.
Newton's Principia: Laws of Motion and Gravity
The first book, titled Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (which means "Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy"), was written by Sir Isaac Newton in 1687. This book is one of the most important scientific books ever published.

Newton's Principia explained how the universe works using mathematics. In this book, Newton introduced:
