Priscilla Alden (born around 1602, died around 1685) was a brave young woman who traveled to America on the famous ship, the Mayflower, in 1620. She sailed from England to a new land, which would become North America.
Priscilla married John Alden in Plymouth Colony in 1623. They had many children together. This couple helped start the town of Duxbury, which is north of Plymouth. Priscilla died around 1685 and is buried in the Myles Standish Burial Ground. She is also a main character in a famous poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, called The Courtship of Miles Standish.

Priscilla's Early Life and Journey
Priscilla Mullins was born around 1602. We are not completely sure where she was born or who her parents were. Some believe she was born in Surrey, England. Her parents might have been William and Alice Mullins.
Priscilla traveled to the New World with her parents and her brother, Joseph. Sadly, all three of them died during the harsh winter of 1620-1621. This was a very difficult time for the early settlers.
Marriage and Family Life
Priscilla Mullins married John Alden in 1623. Their wedding took place in Plymouth Colony. Together, they had ten or eleven children.
John and Priscilla Alden lived in Plymouth for many years. In the late 1630s, they decided to move north. They helped to establish a new town called Duxbury, in Massachusetts.
Priscilla's Final Resting Place
Priscilla Alden passed away around 1685. She was buried in the Myles Standish Burial Ground in Duxbury. Even today, the exact spot of her grave within the burial ground is not known.
A Character in Poetry
Priscilla Alden is a very important character in a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The poem, titled The Courtship of Miles Standish, was published in 1858.
Interestingly, Longfellow was a descendant of Priscilla and John Alden. He took a family legend and turned it into a romantic story for his poem. This made Priscilla a well-known figure in American history and literature.
