Exploring Pudasjärvi's Natural Beauty

Pudasjärvi is famous for its amazing natural environment. It is home to Syöte National Park, which is the southernmost "fell" area in Finland. A fell is a high, open piece of land, similar to a small mountain or a large hill, often without many trees. Syöte offers great opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking and skiing.

Ancient Rocks of Pudasjärvi

Did you know that some of the oldest rocks in the entire European Union can be found right here in Pudasjärvi? In a place called Siuruankylä, there are rock formations that are an incredible 3,500 million years old! These ancient rocks are a type of gneiss called trondhjemite.

Music from Pudasjärvi

Pudasjärvi is also the birthplace of two well-known Finnish bands. Both Kalmah and Eternal Tears of Sorrow are "melodic death metal" bands that started in this town.

Understanding the Pudasjärvi Coat of Arms

The official symbol of Pudasjärvi, its coat of arms, has a special meaning. It shows the Big Dipper constellation and a bear. These symbols come from an old seal used by the local church leader long ago.

The coat of arms was designed by an artist named Gustaf von Numers. The town council of Pudasjärvi officially approved it on August 2, 1950. Later that year, on September 26, the Ministry of the Interior in Finland also approved it for use.
