Punggol (also spelled Ponggol) is a special area and town in Singapore. It's located on the Tanjong Pungool peninsula in the North-Eastern part of the country. To its north is the Straits of Johor, which is a body of water.

Punggol is north of Sengkang and shares a river border with Seletar and Pasir Ris. Did you know that Coney Island, a popular spot, is also part of Punggol?

Where is Punggol Located?

Punggol is in the North-East Region of Singapore. It's a coastal area, meaning it's right by the sea. Its total area is about 9.57 square kilometers, which is roughly 3.7 square miles. A big part of this land, about 3.74 square kilometers, is used for homes.

Who Lives in Punggol?

As of 2018, about 161,570 people live in Punggol. That's a lot of people! The area has many homes, with about 43,385 housing units. The plan is for Punggol to grow even more, eventually having around 96,000 homes. People who live in Punggol are officially called "Punggol residents." Sometimes, people also use fun nicknames like "Punggoler" or "Punggolite."

How Punggol is Governed

Punggol is part of the North East CDC. A CDC helps to improve the community and support residents. Punggol also has its own Town Council, called the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council. This council helps manage the daily needs of the town, like keeping it clean and maintaining common areas.

Punggol is also part of a larger voting area called the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC. This GRC has several Members of Parliament (MPs) who represent the people living there.
