Puttur is a city in the Dakshina Kannada district. This district is part of the Karnataka state in India. A very old and important place, the Puttur Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple, is found here.

Puttur is located at 12°45′53″N 75°11′03″E / 12.7648°N 75.1842°E. This means it is in the southern part of India. The city is about 87 m (300 ft) above sea level. This is like being on a small hill. Puttur is also about 52 km (32 mi) south-east of a bigger city called Mangalore.
