Quartz Mountain is found in Douglas County, Oregon. It stands tall within the Umpqua National Forest. The mountain reaches an elevation of over 5,200 feet (about 1,585 meters). It is also part of the Jackson Creek area. This creek flows into the South Umpqua River.
What is Silica?

The Old Lookout Tower
For many years, the top of Quartz Mountain had a special building. This was a fire lookout tower used by the United States Forest Service. People would stay in the tower to watch for forest fires. This helped protect the forest from danger. The tower was taken down in 1970.
