Early Life and Music
Quazedelic was born in Santa Ana, California. His mother was from Bishop, California, and his father was from Texas. Growing up with a mixed background presented some challenges, but he focused his energy on his love for music from a young age.
In 1982, his family moved to Long Beach. By 1986, he was living in Alabama, where he formed a rap group. The group won a local radio contest, which caught the attention of the Seattle rapper Sir Mix-a-Lot. Quazedelic started as a dancer for the rapper and later began producing music for his team. In 1989, he moved to Vancouver, Canada, and started a rap group called EQ, which became one of the first popular rap groups in the city.
Music Career
Working with Big Names
From 1997 to 1999, Quazedelic lived in the Bay Area of California. There, he worked with rappers like B-Legit and Baby Bash. In 2000, he was introduced to Meech Wells, a producer for Doggystyle Records.
Quazedelic's music is heavily inspired by funk legends like George Clinton and Bootsy Collins. His unique style, which combines funk, live drumming, and singing, helped him stand out. He and Wells produced several songs together, including "Don't Fight the Feelin'," which featured artists like Nate Dogg and Cameron.
Solo Projects and Collaborations
In 2004, Quazedelic released a free collection of songs called The Soundscannerz Presents Leak Deaz. It became popular because it featured famous rappers like 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, and Daz Dillinger.
After his time with Doggystyle Records, Quazedelic focused on his own solo music. He worked with the group X-Clan on their album Return From Mecca, producing five songs. He even sang and rapped on the track "Space People."
His first solo album, The Electric Underwater Church Movement, was released in 2006. He later formed a group called the Oneder Friendz with artists Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins.
From 2005 to 2010, Quazedelic toured with Snoop Dogg as a member of his band, the Snoopadelics. In the summer of 2010, he also joined George Clinton's famous band, Parliament Funkadelic, as one of its youngest members.
Spiritual Themes in Music
In 1994, Quazedelic had a spiritual experience that changed his life and his music. This is when he started calling himself "Quazedelic." His music began to focus on positive ideas like higher consciousness, peace, and light.
His songs often explore subjects like spirituality, space, and deep thinking, similar to the style of his hero, George Clinton. For example, his album The Arrival 2012 A.U. (After Us) touches on ideas about the future and becoming more aware of the world around us.
MTV Nomination
Quazedelic worked with Snoop Dogg on the song "Dance Wit Me" for the video game True Crime: Streets of LA. On the track, he sang the main melody, and his voice sounded very similar to the legendary singer Marvin Gaye. The song was a hit and earned a nomination for Best Video Game Soundtrack from MTV in 2003.
