Quinnville is a small village in Rhode Island, USA. It is part of the town of Lincoln. Quinnville is the smallest of Lincoln's seven villages. It is surrounded by other villages like Albion to the north, Limerock to the west, and Lonsdale to the south. The Blackstone River runs along its eastern side.

Getting Around Quinnville

The Blackstone Canal flows through Quinnville, west of the Blackstone River. This canal was once used for boats. At the northern end of the village, you can find an old control gate. You can reach it by following the old tow path, which was a trail for horses that pulled boats along the canal.

This gate was built in 1903 by the Lonsdale Company. It helped control the water flowing into the canal. By then, the canal was no longer used for boats. Instead, its water helped power the Lonsdale Mills, about three miles away.

Quinnville has two bridges that cross the canal. One bridge is part of the Blackstone River Bikeway state park. It helps people get to the bikeway's parking area. The other bridge is on Martin Street. It crosses both the canal and the river into Cumberland.

Quinnville's Past

Like many villages in Rhode Island, Quinnville was once a "mill village." This means it grew up around factories, especially textile mills. These mills made cloth and other fabric products.

Long ago, the area we now call Quinnville was part of the village of Ashton in the Town of Cumberland. A bridge connected the two sides across the Blackstone River. Both sides of the river had textile mills and homes for the people who worked there.

The mill on the Quinnville side was taken down in the early 1900s. However, the Ashton Mill is still standing today. It has been updated and is now used as housing.
