Quinte West is a city in Southern Ontario, Canada. It's located on the western side of the Bay of Quinte, which is part of Lake Ontario. Even though it's surrounded by Hastings County, Quinte West manages its own affairs. This city is also where the Trent–Severn Waterway ends, connecting to Lake Ontario.

History of Quinte West
Quinte West became a city on January 1, 1998. It was formed by joining together four smaller places: the city of Trenton, the village of Frankford, and the areas called Murray and Sidney Townships. Trenton is the biggest part of Quinte West. It's also where the city's main offices and businesses are located.

Frankford's Story
Frankford was first settled by Europeans in the 1820s. A settler named Abel Scott built a grist mill there. A grist mill is a place where grain is ground into flour. The settlement had different names like Scott's Mills and Cold Creek. It was finally named Frankford after Sir Francis Bond Head. He was the Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada at the time. Frankford became an official village in 1920.

Quinte West is home to 8 Wing Trenton. This is the main air transportation hub for the Canadian Armed Forces. It's the biggest employer in the area. 8 Wing/CFB Trenton is the largest air base in the Royal Canadian Air Force. It helps support Canadian Armed Forces operations all over the world.
The air base has many services. These include snow removal and crash rescue. It also has 24-hour air traffic control. Its paved runway is over 10,000 feet long. This means it can handle many different types of aircraft. There is also a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) office right at the base.
Many other companies also have locations in Trenton. These include Nestle Canada Inc., Electro Cables Inc., Globalmed Inc., and Canadian Blast Freezers. Other businesses are Trenton Cold Storage Group, Deca Cables Inc., and Domtech Inc. You can also find Drossbach North America, Fracan Ltd., and L3 Communications Spar Aerospace Ltd. The larger area that includes Quinte West and Belleville is called the Belleville - Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area (CMA). In 2021, this larger area had a population of about 111,184 people.

Most people in Quinte West are Christian. There is also a small Jewish community in the area. They have a synagogue in nearby Belleville. A small Muslim community also lives here. They have a mosque in Belleville and a new mosque in Trenton.

Media and News
Trenton is the official home for a radio station called CJTN-FM. Even though it's based in Trenton, the station broadcasts from studios in Belleville. The city also has its own version of a local newspaper called EMC. Another community newspaper, The Trentonian, is published by Osprey Media. CFB Trenton also has its own newspaper for Canadian Forces members, called the Contact.

Fire and Rescue
Quinte West Fire Rescue provides fire and rescue services. They have seven stations across the city. The Trenton fire station has full-time and volunteer firefighters. The other six stations are fully volunteer.
Police Services
Police services are provided by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The OPP has a detachment, or office, in Trenton.
