Quito is a small place in Leflore County, Mississippi. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city.
Quito is about 6 miles (10 km) north of Morgan City. It's also about 3 miles (5 km) south of Itta Bena. You can find it along Mississippi Highway 7.
It is part of the Greenwood, Mississippi micropolitan area. A "micropolitan area" is a place with a central city and nearby communities. These communities are closely linked to the main city.
History of Quito
Quito used to be on the Columbus and Greenville Railroad line. This was a railway that helped transport goods and people. A post office was open in Quito from 1907 to 1918. This means people could send and receive mail there.
Music and Legends
For a while, people thought a famous blues musician named Robert Johnson was buried in the Payne Chapel cemetery in Quito. Robert Johnson was a very important blues guitarist and singer. However, new information shows he was buried somewhere else. He is now believed to be buried at Little Zion M.B. Church Cemetery. This cemetery is north of Greenwood.
