What is Quranism?
Quranism is a belief system within Islam. Its followers believe that the Quran is the only true source of religious law and guidance. This means they think that all rules and teachings for Muslims come directly from the Quran. They do not use other religious texts to guide their lives.
The Quran: Islam's Holy Book
The Quran is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe it is a revelation from God. It was given to the Islamic prophet Muhammad over 23 years. The Quran contains teachings about God, how to live a good life, and rules for society. It is written in the Arabic language.
Why Quranists Focus Only on the Quran
Quranists believe that the Quran is complete and perfect. They think it has all the guidance a Muslim needs. They see the Quran as the final and only authority. This is a key part of their belief.
What About Hadith?
Most Muslims follow both the Quran and the Hadith. Hadith are collections of sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad. They were written down by his companions. These collections also include his teachings and examples.
Why Quranists Don't Use Hadith
Quranists do not accept Hadith as a source of religious law. They believe that Hadith were written down a long time after Prophet Muhammad died. Some Hadith were written about 200 to 300 years later. Because of this, Quranists worry that Hadith might not be fully accurate. They think some parts might have been changed or misunderstood over time. They believe only the Quran is truly from God and has been perfectly preserved.
How Quranism is Different
Most Muslims belong to groups like Sunni or Shia Islam. These groups use both the Quran and Hadith. They see Hadith as important for understanding how to practice Islam. They believe Hadith help explain the Quran.
Focusing on the Quran's Direct Message
Quranists, however, want to go back to what they see as the original teachings of Islam. They believe that by focusing only on the Quran, they can avoid later additions. They feel this helps them understand God's message directly. They aim to follow Islam in its simplest form.
