Rio Segundo, also known as Río 2º, is a city in Argentina. It is located near the center of the country. The city sits on the banks of the Rio Segundo. It is about 40 kilometres (25 mi) east of Córdoba. It is also about 660 kilometres (410 mi) west of Buenos Aires.
Rio Segundo is the largest city in the Río Segundo Department. A major road, National Route 9, and a main train line pass through the city. This train line connects Córdoba to Buenos Aires. On the other side of the river is a smaller city called Pilar.

Rio Segundo's economy mostly comes from making raw materials. These include things like cereals, meat, sand, and stone. The city has several large meat processing plants. These plants are called frigorificos.
A company called Georgalos also adds a lot to the city's economy. They make many kinds of candies. Many people from Rio Segundo travel by bus to Córdoba. They work at the Fiat car factory there. Construction is another big employer in Rio Segundo. Since it is an old city, it always needs repairs and new buildings.

History of Rio Segundo
The area around Rio Segundo was once called "Chanaes" or "Xanaes." This was the name of the river itself. Spanish explorers, called Conquistadores, were the first Europeans to arrive. They followed the river, hoping to reach the Atlantic Ocean.
It is believed that Spanish Conquistadores first settled the area on December 25, 1576. Because of this, they first named the area "Navidad," which means Christmas. Later, the Spanish founder Jerónimo Luís de Cabrera changed the name to Río Segundo.
The first building in Rio Segundo was a post office by the river. This post office helped the city grow. Many travelers would stop there before crossing the river. Before 1870, people had to cross the river in their carriages. The river's depth and currents were often unpredictable.
Rio Segundo was a small village until the train arrived. A new railroad from Buenos Aires to Córdoba passed right through the city. This brought even more growth. In 1883, the city's first school opened. One year later, the first church began construction. In the same year, the city's first industry started. Sr. Andrónico Gómez began making beer. In 1888, Rio Segundo got its own town hall. They also elected their first mayor, Mayor Luís Loredo.
In 1916, the first road from Córdoba to Rio Segundo was built. This road continued to Villa Maria and then to Buenos Aires. A new bridge for cars was also built. During this time, many refugees from World War I in Europe moved to the area. They brought their diverse cultures with them.
