History of Ríos
How Ríos Became Part of the United States
After the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico was given to the United States by Spain. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. At that time, the areas of Ríos and Pollos together had 1,075 people.
