The Story of Studio 54 Network

How the Radio Station Started

Studio 54 Network began on June 6, 1985. It was the idea of Pietro Parretta and Francesco Massara. They started it with Enzo Gatto, Memmo Minniti, and Pietro Musmeci. The station's first name was Radio DJ Studio Club 54.

Like many free radio stations back then, it started as a fun hobby. But by the early 1990s, the founders realized it could be more than just a game. They wanted to make it a real career.

Becoming a Professional Station

In 1990, a new law called the Mammì law changed how radio stations worked in Italy. This law helped turn radio hobbies into proper businesses.

In 1991, Studio 54 Network became one of the first radio stations in Calabria to use Radio Data System. This technology helps your radio show you the station's name or song titles.

New Technology and Growth

In 1994, the station started using digital technology for its broadcasts. This made the sound quality much better than older analog systems. Studio 54 Network was the first in Calabria to do this. It was also one of the first in Italy to use this technology fully for radio.

Since 1995, the station grew even more. It bought other radio businesses in Calabria. This helped Studio 54 Network reach more listeners. It expanded beyond its original area to other parts of Calabria and nearby regions.

In 1997, it was one of the first Italian radios to try broadcasting online. They experimented with webcasting using a technology called Real Audio.

In 1998, the station officially changed its name to "Studio 54 Network".

Stargate: Radio on the Go

In 2000, Studio 54 Network built its first mobile studio, called Stargate. This was a big step! It meant the radio could broadcast live from public places. They could go to events and connect with crowds directly.
