Rafael Santos Torroella (born 1914 in Portbou, died 2002 in Barcelona) was an important Spanish art critic, a person who writes about art. He was also a translator, meaning he changed texts from one language to another, and a poet, someone who writes poems.

Biography

Rafael Santos Torroella was the brother of Àngels Santos Torroella, who was also involved in the art world. Rafael became well-known for his writings about famous artists like Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dalí.

His Work and Impact

After the Spanish Civil War, Rafael Santos Torroella played a big part in bringing new and exciting art styles, known as avant-garde art, back to Spain. He helped people understand and appreciate these modern art movements.

In 1952, he published his own book of poems called Antología Poética. Many people consider him a top expert in the world of art. His writings and books are very important and can be found in major libraries all over the world, not just in Europe.

Rafael Santos Torroella's work, especially his books about Miró and Dalí, made him famous. Even though his books are widely known, not much is publicly known about his personal life.
