Ramón Núñez's Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Ramón Núñez was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He moved to the United States with his family when he was young. He went to W. T. White High School in Dallas, Texas. After playing college soccer for one season at Southern Methodist University, he was chosen by the Dallas Burn in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. He was even named the best freshman player in his college conference!
Playing in Major League Soccer (MLS)

In his first year with the Dallas Burn (which later became FC Dallas), Ramón didn't play much. But in his second season, he became a starter and scored five goals, helping his team a lot. Later, in August 2007, he moved to Chivas USA. After that season, he became a free agent, meaning he could join any team he wanted.
Playing for Olimpia in Honduras
Soon after, Ramón joined Olimpia, a big club in Honduras. He played 34 games and scored three goals. He was a very important player for Olimpia, often playing as an attacking midfielder and setting up many goals for his teammates. People admired his amazing vision on the field. He helped Olimpia win the 2007-08 Clausura championship and was even named the player of the season!
Loan to Puebla in Mexico
Because he was playing so well for Olimpia and the Honduras national football team, Ramón was loaned to Puebla, a team in Mexico's top league, for six months. He scored his first goal for Puebla in February 2009. He ended up scoring five goals and making five assists during his time there.
Moving to Cruz Azul
His great performances at Puebla led him to join Cruz Azul for the 2009–2010 season. He scored two goals in the CONCACAF Champions League for them. However, he left after six months because he wasn't playing as much as he wanted. He decided to go back to Honduras to play regularly and make sure he had a spot on the national team for the 2010 World Cup.
Returning to Olimpia
Ramón went back to Honduras and rejoined C.D. Olimpia, the country's most successful team. He scored 5 goals in 11 games for them. After his six-month contract ended, Ramón wanted to play in Europe. He turned down offers from other Mexican clubs and became a free agent. He then left Olimpia to try out for Leeds United.
Time with Leeds United
In August 2010, Ramón Núñez went to England to try out for Leeds United. He scored in his very first game for the club during a friendly match. He impressed the manager, Simon Grayson, and signed a professional contract with Leeds United until January 2011.
He played a full 90 minutes in a friendly game against Middlesbrough, scoring a goal and getting an assist. Ramón was finally able to play for Leeds' first team after getting his paperwork sorted out.
He made his first team debut as a substitute against Cardiff City. Ramón signed a new contract extension with Leeds until the end of the 2010–11 season. Even though he didn't play many first-team games, he performed well for Leeds United's reserve team. Leeds decided to keep him for another year.
Loan to Scunthorpe United
To get more experience in English football, Ramón joined Scunthorpe United on loan in March 2011. He scored his first goal for Scunthorpe against Crystal Palace. His loan was extended until the end of the season because he was playing so well. He scored an important goal against Coventry City. Ramón scored his third goal for Scunthorpe in the final match of the season.
Back at Leeds United
After his loan, Ramón signed a new contract with Leeds in May 2011. He played for Honduras in the CONCACAF Gold Cup that summer. Ramón was given the number 20 shirt for Leeds United. He scored his first goals for Leeds with two goals against Bradford City in the League Cup. He also scored his first league goal for the club against Hull City.
In October 2011, Ramón signed a new four-year deal with Leeds United. However, he was later put on the transfer list by the new manager, Neil Warnock. Ramón suffered a serious knee injury in September 2012, which kept him out for the entire season. His contract with Leeds was ended by agreement in January 2013.
Playing for Alajuelense
On June 11, 2014, it was announced that Ramón had signed with Alajuelense. He was released from the team in November due to some issues.
