Randy Daniels was born in 1950. He is an American businessman, politician, and journalist. He served as the Secretary of State of New York from 2001 to 2005.
Mr. Daniels was appointed to the board of trustees for the State University of New York in 1997. He is currently the vice chairman there. Before this, he was a senior vice president at the Empire State Development Corporation. Former governor George Pataki chose him for both roles.
In 2006, Daniels tried to become the Governor of New York. He ran in the Republican primary election but was not successful.
Daniels worked for the New York City Council President's Office from 1986 to 1988. He was the director of communications. In 1988, he became the press secretary for the prime minister of the Bahamas. He also briefly served as Deputy Mayor of New York City in 1992. This was under Mayor David Dinkins. Before working in public service, Daniels was a journalist for CBS News. He also taught journalism.

Early Life and Education
Randy Daniels grew up in Chicago. He lived in a housing project with his nine brothers and sisters. His family later moved to Markham, Illinois.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University. He studied government and journalism there. Daniels worked as a journalist and in public relations early in his career.
His wife, Sallie Manzanet-Daniels, became a New York State Judge in 2009. She was appointed by Governor David Paterson.
Randy Daniels' Career
Journalism and Teaching
Daniels started his journalism career in Chicago. He was a reporter for WVON radio. Later, he joined CBS News. In the 1970s, he worked as a war correspondent. In 1977, he became their Africa Bureau Chief.
He was often seen on the evening news. He reported on eight wars and the Iranian Revolution. During this time, he also taught journalism. He was a professor at both the City College of New York and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
Public Service and Politics
In 1986, Daniels became the communications director. He worked for Andrew Stein, who was president of the New York City Council. In 1988, he became the press secretary for the prime minister of the Bahamas.
Daniels started his political career as a Democrat. However, in 2002, he changed to the Republican Party. He was briefly the deputy mayor of New York City. This was during the time David Dinkins was mayor.
In 2001, he was appointed as the Secretary of State for New York. He served in this role until 2005. He was considered as a possible running mate for Governor Pataki in 2002. This would have been for the lieutenant governor position.
In 2006, Daniels ran for the Republican nomination for Governor of New York. Many people thought he was a very good speaker. He gained support from party leaders in Central New York, especially in Syracuse. Leaders of the state's Conservative Party also supported him.
On April 9, 2006, it was reported that Daniels would end his campaign. He then endorsed John Faso for governor. Daniels said he was not trying to become Faso's running mate for lieutenant governor. Faso later chose C. Scott Vanderhoef as his running mate.
Daniels was thought to be a future candidate for Governor of New York. He was also considered for chairman of the New York Republican State Committee. However, he has said he does not plan to run for office again. He prefers to support Republicans from the private business world.
Business Ventures
From 2007 to 2015, Daniels was the vice chairman of Gilford Securities Incorporated. He now works as a managing director. He is with Pickwick Capital Partners, LLC. This is an investment banking firm in White Plains, New York.
