Ransom Canyon is a small and interesting town located in Lubbock County, in West Texas, United States. In 2020, about 1,189 people lived here. It's part of the larger Lubbock area. This town is known for its beautiful lakes and unique homes.

Town Geography

Ransom Canyon is found inside Yellow House Canyon. This canyon is on the eastern edge of a large flat area called the Llano Estacado. The Yellow House Canyon was formed by the North Fork Double Mountain Fork Brazos River. This river has been dammed in several places. These dams created lakes like Buffalo Springs Lake and Lake Ransom Canyon.

Robert Bruno's Art and Homes

Robert R. Bruno Jr. (1945–2008) was a talented sculptor and inventor. He was born in Los Angeles in 1945. Robert spent his childhood in Mexico and the United States. He later studied art at college and graduate school.

The Steel House

In 1971, Robert moved to Lubbock to teach art at Texas Tech University. He started building his famous "Steel House" in 1973. This unique house was inspired by an earlier sculpture he made. The Steel House is made of special steel that changes color over time. It weighs 110 tons and stands on four hollow legs. The house has three levels and is 2,200 square feet in size. Robert finished building it just 10 months before he passed away in 2008.

The Rock House

In 1982, Robert and his wife, Patricia Mills, started a company called P&R Surge Systems. Later, in 1991, Robert worked with others to build another amazing home. This was the "Rock House," which weighs 460 tons. It was inspired by the unique buildings of Antoni Gaudi.
