Raşit Meredow was born on May 29, 1960. He is a politician and diplomat from Turkmenistan. Since 2007, he has served as the Vice President of Turkmenistan. He has also been the Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2001.
About Raşit Meredow

Raşit Meredow was born in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on May 29, 1960. His father, Öwezgeldi, was a scientist and lawyer. His mother is from the Azerbaijani ethnic group. Many of his mother's relatives live in the city of Mary.
In 1977, Raşit Meredow began studying law at Moscow State University. After graduating in 1982, he started teaching at the Turkmen State University. He continued his studies and earned a master's degree in law.
Career in Government
From 1987 to 1990, Meredow worked as a lecturer at Turkmen State University. He then moved into government roles. He worked in the Ministry of Justice of Turkmenistan. Later, he joined the office of the President of Turkmenistan.
In 1994, he became the chairman of the law committee in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. The Mejlis is like a parliament or assembly. In 1996, he became deputy director of the Turkmen National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights.
In May 1999, he was appointed as the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. In December 1999, he became the First Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis. In May 2001, he was elected as the Chairman of the Assembly of Turkmenistan.
A few months later, in July 2001, he was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also took on duties as the director of the Turkmen National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights. From 2003 to 2005, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Raşit Meredow is known for speaking several languages. He is fluent in Turkish, Russian, and English, in addition to his native Turkmen. He is currently the longest-serving foreign minister in the world.
