Club Deportivo Real Zamora is a Mexican football team. It is based in Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico. The club currently plays in the Liga Premier – Serie B, which is one of Mexico's professional football leagues.

The club started in 1950. It has played in Mexico's top football division and other leagues over the years. In 2016, Real Zamora won a key match against Sporting Canamy. This win helped them move up to a higher league called the Liga Premier de Ascenso. They then won another promotion to the Liga de Ascenso. The club took a break in 2019 and 2020 to improve its stadium. This was to help them aim for promotion to the Liga de Expansión MX, a higher league.

History of Real Zamora Football Club

Early Years of C.D. Zamora

The club was founded on December 26, 1950. It quickly joined the Segunda División de México. This league included other famous teams like Zacatepec and Monterrey. In its first season, the club almost won the league. They finished just a few points behind Zacatepec. Zacatepec then moved up to the Primera División de México, which is the top league.

The team continued to play well in the following years. In the 1954-55 season, Zamora finished second again. This time, the football federation decided to add more teams to the top division. This allowed Zamora to be promoted to the Primera División. They joined other teams like Cuautla FC and Atlante in the top league.

Playing in the Top League

In the 1955-56 season, C.D. Zamora played its first games in the top league. However, the team had a very tough time. They were relegated back to the Segunda División after just one season. The next year, in 1956–57, the club finally won its first championship title. This was in the Segunda División. They were led by the Argentine player Raúl Leguizamón. This win allowed them to return to the top division.

Zamora played in the top league for three more seasons. Their best finish was 7th place in 1957–58. But in the 1959-60 season, the club finished last. They were relegated from the top division once more. The club did not return to the Primera División after this. They had chances in 1963-64 and 1982-83 but lost their promotion matches.

The Club's Return and New Teams

The Segunda División team came back to Zamora in 1989–90. This happened when the Cachorros Guaymas team moved to the city. In this season, the club won the Segunda División "B" and moved up. But they were relegated again in 1990-91 and then stopped playing in 1994.

The club played on and off from 1994 until 2004. A new team called Jaguares de Zamora was created. This was a reserve team for Chiapas. In 2007, the club became independent again. It rejoined the Segunda División de México until 2008. In 2010, the club returned as Atlético Zamora. This team was dissolved in 2011.

The Rise of Real Zamora

In 2008, a new club named Real Zamora was formed. It started in the Tercera División de México. This team was created from the license of another club, Real Cavadas. In the 2013–14 season, Real Zamora reached the championship final. They were runners-up after losing to Tuzos de Pachuca. Being the runner-up allowed them to be promoted to the Liga de Nuevos Talentos.

In the Apertura 2015 tournament, Real Zamora was again a runner-up. They lost to Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas. However, in the Clausura 2016 tournament, Real Zamora won the championship! They beat Sporting Canamy with a total score of 4-1. This win gave them the chance to play for promotion. Real Zamora won the promotion playoff against Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas with a big 7-1 score. This meant they were promoted to the Liga Premier de Ascenso.

Stadium and Recent Changes

After their promotion in the 2016-17 season, the club worked with the city to finish building the Estadio Zamora. This was important to meet the league's rules. Real Zamora played its first game in the new stadium on October 1, 2016.

In 2019, the team announced it would take a break. This was because their stadium needed more improvements to meet the league's requirements. The break was meant to help them get ready for a possible promotion to a higher league. In 2020, the Real Zamora team's spot was used by another club, Azores de Hidalgo. Then, in 2021, the Real Zamora team moved to Querétaro and became Inter de Querétaro F.C..

In 2024, the Inter de Querétaro club gave up its rights to the team. This allowed Real Zamora to return to competition. The team is now independent from its past owners. It started playing in the Liga Premier – Serie B. The team was initially based in La Piedad but moved to Toluca, State of Mexico in February 2025 for easier travel to matches.
