Rebeca Bernal Rodríguez (born August 31, 1997) is a talented Mexican professional footballer. She plays as a defensive midfielder or centre-back. Rebeca is currently a player for the Washington Spirit team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She is also the captain of the Mexico women's national team.

Early Life and Football Start
Rebeca Bernal was born in Tampico, Mexico. When she was about seven years old, she joined a football school. This school was called Escuela de Futbol Cruz Azul in Ciudad Madero. She was the only girl on the team at that time.
When Rebeca was 14, she moved to Monterrey. There, she studied psychology at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.
Club Football Career
Rebeca Bernal started her professional club career with CF Monterrey. She joined the team when the Liga MX Femenil was first created in 2017. She played for Monterrey for many years.
In February 2025, Rebeca joined the Washington Spirit club in the NWSL. She signed a three-year contract with them. She quickly made an impact, winning a trophy in her very first game. On March 7, 2025, the Spirit defeated the Orlando Pride in the 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup by winning a penalty shootout. Rebeca successfully scored her penalty kick in that shootout.
Playing for Her Country: International Career
Rebeca Bernal has represented Mexico at different levels of football.
Youth National Teams
She played for Mexico's youth teams. This included the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. She also played in the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. These tournaments helped her gain valuable experience.
Senior National Team Debut
Rebeca made her first appearance for the senior national team on July 8, 2017. She started in a friendly match against Sweden. Mexico lost that game 1–0.
Winning Gold Medals
Rebeca was part of the Mexican team at the 2023 Pan American Games. This event took place in Santiago, Chile. The Mexican team played incredibly well and did not lose any games. They won the gold medal for the first time in their history at the Pan American Games. They beat Chile 1–0 in the final. Rebeca Bernal scored the winning goal for Mexico in that important match.
She also won a gold medal at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.
