The Pioneer Store: A Glimpse into the Past

The Pioneer Store was built in 1859 by John Voger Diller. It is the oldest business building in San Mateo County! This building, also known as the Diller-Chamberlain General Store, first served as a general store. Later, it became a laundromat called Quong Lee Laundry.

Alhambra Theater: Entertainment and History

The Alhambra Theater opened in 1896. It was an important place for entertainment between the bigger cities of San Jose and San Francisco. The theater hosted many different shows. People could watch operas, plays, and musical performances there. It even had a bar that was visited by the famous Wyatt Earp! In 1921, a group called the Masonic Order bought the building. They used it for their meetings. The building was badly damaged by a fire in 2001, but thankfully, it was saved.

Bank of San Mateo County: A Strong Survivor

The Bank of San Mateo County building was finished in 1900. It was the second location for the First National Bank of San Mateo County. This building was strong enough to survive the big 1906 earthquake! The bank started in 1891 and later joined with Wells Fargo Bank in the 1970s. During its years of operation, the bank printed different types of National Bank Notes.

Sequoia Hotel: From Grand Hotel to Homes

The Sequoia Hotel was built in 1912. It stands where an old brewery, the Eureka Brewery, used to be before it burned down in 1902. In 1916, people said it was "the finest hotel now in operation between San Francisco and San Jose." Today, the building is no longer a hotel. Instead, it provides homes for people.
