Reeder is a small city located in Adams County, North Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 125 people lived there.
The city was started in 1907. It was built along the tracks of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The city was named after E. O. Reeder, who was an important engineer for the railroad.
Reeder is also a stop on the old Yellowstone Trail. This was the very first highway that crossed the entire northern part of the United States. It was made for cars!
Did you know that a special type of wheat was named after Reeder? It was created by the North Dakota Agriculture Experiment Station.
History of Reeder
In 1907, two brothers, Albert and Charles Leff, set up a post office. They also had other businesses about one and a half miles east of where Reeder is today.
Later, the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad planned out the current town area. They decided to name it Reeder. The Leff post office then moved to the new town on March 13, 1908. It kept the name Leff until July 1, 1908, when it officially became Reeder.
In 1923, a powerful tornado hit the area. It destroyed many farmhouses and sadly caused some deaths.

Reeder is located in North Dakota. It covers a total area of about 0.62 square miles (1.78 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
The city is found right along U.S. Highway 12. This highway meets North Dakota Highway 22 in Reeder.
