History of Reedsville
How Reedsville Got Its Name
The village of Reedsville was named after a man named Judge George Reed. He and his partner, Jacob Lueps, bought a large piece of land in the area.
Early Days and Growth
In 1854, Judge Reed and Jacob Lueps had the land carefully measured and mapped out. A surveyor named George Wimpf created a plan for the village with 56 blocks.
The very first people to live in this area were French Canadians and Menomonee Indians. Later, many new families came to settle here from countries like Germany, Bohemia, and Ireland. Reedsville officially became a village in 1892. At that time, about 510 people called it home.
