Regla is one of the 15 areas, called municipalities, in the city of Havana, Cuba. It's located at the bottom of Havana Bay. Long ago, it was a settlement for the native people called Guaicanamar.
Regla includes the main town, a place called Loma Modelo, and the village of Casablanca. Casablanca is located right at the entrance of Havana Bay.

About Regla
Regla is an important area for business and industry. It has shipyards where boats are built and repaired. There are also large docks, including the Havana Container Terminal, which handles many shipping containers.
The area is home to the Ñico Lopez refinery, which processes oil. There are also mills that process flour and wheat, and storage places for aviation fuel.
Regla's History
Regla has a very interesting history from the time when Cuba was a colony. It is known as the hometown of important figures like Don Luis Chacón and the famous dance group Guaracheros de Regla. It is also known for the traditional Virgen de Regla Santería celebrations.
The town grew around a small church, the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Regla, which was built around 1690. Regla was officially founded in 1687 or 1765. Its population grew from 164 people in 1755 to 2,218 by 1810.
Important People and Events
Regla has a strong tradition of patriotism. Many important people who loved their country came from here. One such person was Eduardo Facciolo, who worked for Cuba's independence. Another was Miguel Coyula, who became a high-ranking officer in the Cuban Liberation Army. This army fought for Cuba's freedom from colonial rule.
It is a well-known fact that José Martí, a very important Cuban national hero, gave his first speech about independence in Regla.
During a time when many people in Cuba wanted more freedom, Regla was known for its strong spirit. People in Regla were very brave in expressing their desire for change. One notable event happened in March 1958. A young man named Juan Alborna Salado led a large gathering of people. They were showing their strong feelings about a young man from Regla who had passed away. Many people joined in, walking together to the cemetery. This event showed the strong community spirit in Regla.
Population and Areas
In 2022, Regla had a population of 44,185 people. The area of Regla is about 9 square kilometers (3.5 square miles). This means it has about 4,800 people living in each square kilometer.
Regla is divided into smaller areas called Barrios or Colonias. These include Reparto Modelo, La Colonia, La Loma, and La Colina Lenin. It is also divided into three main local government areas called Consejos Populares (People's Councils). These are Guaicanamar, which covers downtown Regla; Loma-Modelo, which covers the suburbs; and Casablanca, which includes the village of the same name.
