Reinaldo Apolo Gargano Ostuni (born July 26, 1934 – died February 5, 2013) was an important politician from Uruguay. He served in the government for many years.

Life and Early Career
Reinaldo Gargano was born in Paysandú, Uruguay, on July 26, 1934. He became a journalist and later a politician.
Time in Exile
In 1974, after a time when the government in Uruguay was taken over by force, Gargano had to leave the country. He went to live in Spain. He came back to Uruguay several years later.
Foreign Minister of Uruguay
From March 2005 to March 2008, Reinaldo Gargano worked as the Minister of Foreign Relations for Uruguay. He was part of the government led by President Tabaré Vázquez.
Working with Other Countries
As Foreign Minister, Gargano helped improve Uruguay's connections with other nations. He believed Uruguay should work closely with its neighbors, especially through a group called Mercosur. Mercosur is a group of South American countries that work together on trade and other issues.
He also supported making official connections with Cuba friendly again. He said that people in Uruguay would be happy about this. Gargano also wanted Uruguay to have strong ties with Venezuela and its leader, Hugo Chávez.
Leaving His Role
Reinaldo Gargano left his job as Foreign Minister in March 2008. Another politician, Gonzalo Fernández, took over his role.
Later Life and Death
After leaving his minister role, Gargano continued to be involved in politics. He passed away on February 5, 2013, in Montevideo, Uruguay. He was 79 years old and had been dealing with health issues related to his heart for some months. He was buried at the Parque del Recuerdo cemetery.
