Relic: Guardians of the Museum (also known as Guardians of the Museum) is an exciting British game show for kids. It was shown on BBC One and CBBC. The show takes place at night inside the famous British Museum in London.

How the Game Works

The show features a ghostly 1920s tour guide named Agatha. She helps three children from the same town. Their mission is to defeat the evil Dark Lord. His spooky helpers, called the Dark Forces, glide through the museum's dark halls.

The children have only one night to find a special "relic" hidden in the museum. To do this, they must win three challenges. Each challenge gives them a clue about the relic. If they win the final battle, they get a golden scarab. They also become "Guardians of the Museum." But if they lose, they become part of the museum forever!

The Challenges

Agatha carries a special torch. This torch lets her and the children travel back in time. The three challenges happen in these past times. Challenges can be physical or mental tasks.

Agatha's torch has other powers too. It can push away the Dark Forces if they grab a child. It can also freeze people for a short time if they try to harm the players during a challenge.

If the children win a challenge, all three get to see a vision. This vision shows them a clue about the relic they need to find. If they lose, only one child gets to see the vision. The other two must then remember what that one child saw.

Finding the Relic

This TV series was made to go along with a radio show. The radio show was called A History of the World in 100 Objects. The 13 "relics" in the game show are some of the 100 objects from the radio series. These objects were chosen from about seven million items in the British Museum!

The Final Battle

After the three challenges, Agatha takes the children to the museum's Great Court. Here, she calls the Dark Lord for the final battle. The contestants face him one by one. The team must answer three questions correctly about the relic they saw clues for.

After the Dark Lord asks a question, the child gives their answer. Then, a part of the vision is shown to see if they were right. A correct answer earns the team one of three "passes." The child then goes back to wait for their next turn.

If a child answers incorrectly or passes on a question, the Dark Lord takes them. They disappear and reappear inside a glass display case. If all three children end up in display cases, the Dark Lord wins. His darkness takes over, and the children stay trapped in the museum "forever."

But if the children get all three passes without everyone being taken, they win! The Dark Lord is banished. Any children he took are set free. Agatha then gives each child a golden scarab. She tells them they are now "Guardians of the Museum." She says goodbye as they leave the museum at dawn.

In 2010, Relic: Guardians of the Museum won an award. It received a BAFTA award in the entertainment category.
