Rensselaer Falls is a small village located in St. Lawrence County, New York. In 2020, about 361 people lived there. The village got its name from Henry Van Rensselaer, who owned a mill in the area.
Rensselaer Falls is in the western part of the Town of Canton. It is located just west of the Village of Canton.
Village History
Early settlers were drawn to this area because of a six-foot drop in the river. This drop provided strong water power for mills. The community was first known as "Tateville," and later "Canton Falls." The name "Rensselaer Falls" was officially given by the post office in 1851.
The Congregational Church in Rensselaer Falls is a very old building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. This means it is an important historical site.

Rensselaer Falls is located at 44°35'26" North and 75°19'16" West.
The United States Census Bureau says the village covers about 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. About 6.25% of the total area is water.
The village sits right on the bank of the Oswegatchie River.
Rensselaer Falls is found where County Road 14 (Rensselaer Street) and County Road 15 (Front/Heuvelton Street) meet. The village also borders the Upper and Lower Lakes Wildlife Management Area. This area is important for protecting local wildlife.
