How Rentz Became a Town
The town of Rentz officially started in 1905. That's when the Georgia General Assembly, which is like Georgia's main law-making group, made it an official town. The community was named after E. P. Rentz. He was a local businessperson involved in the lumber industry. A post office has been open in Rentz since 1905, helping people send and receive mail.

Roads and Nearby Towns
Georgia State Route 117, also known as Proctor Street, goes right through the middle of Rentz. If you travel northeast on this road, you'll reach U.S. Route 441 about 4 miles away. Going southwest on the same road, you'll find Cadwell at a similar distance. Dublin, which is the main city of Laurens County, is about 13 miles northeast of Rentz. You can get there by taking Routes 117 and 441.

Schools in the Area
Rentz used to have its own school that taught students from first grade all the way through twelfth grade. However, that school closed many years ago. Now, the Laurens County Schools system helps educate the children. In the fall of 2000, a new school called Southwest Laurens Elementary opened just outside of Rentz.
